A Message from Mr. Huffman

It is an honor to be part of our school district! I graduated from Cumberland High School in 1994 and was hired as a teacher in 2000. For 16 years, I enjoyed the rewarding experience of being a classroom teacher, and I am now excited to be in my tenth year as the principal. Serving our community in this role brings me immense joy, and I am committed to making the remaining years of my career the best yet for our school.

We are witnessing remarkable growth in many areas as we align with state standards and the state literacy plan. We are excited to implement a Structured Literacy program that incorporates the latest brain research while our dedicated teachers employ best practices to prepare students for every step of their educational journey. Observing our teachers in action, engaging and inspiring our students, and seeing the energy and enthusiasm radiating from our students are the most rewarding aspects of my role!

Education has transformed dramatically over the last 30 years, but our mission remains steadfast: “Provide and ensure a safe and positive learning environment for all learners.” Our goal is to help students become productive citizens and foster a commitment to lifelong learning. Now, more than ever, it is vital to collaborate with families to ensure we achieve this mission together.

If you ever have any questions or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me via phone or email at dhuffman@cumberland.k12.il.us. Together, let’s make this your child’s best school year ever!
