For game day last week, Mrs. Kemper's 1st grade class and Mrs. Beard's 2nd grade class partnered up for some extra fun! The 2nd graders taught the 1st graders two math games. Mrs. Kemper blew their minds by "reading" minds! Then, they went outside for a game of Human Knot. The kids enjoyed figuring out how to undo their knots!

This week is National Library Week and two special guests came to help the elementary students “paws” for reading! The students loved the furry guests, and Ruby and Maggie enjoyed the extra attention they got this week, too!



Mark your calendars for the annual Family Engagement Night at Cumberland Elementary and Middle School on Tuesday, May 9, from 4:00-6:30 PM. There will be food trucks, student projects, prizes, a book fair, and more! We hope to see you there!


Mrs. Dryden’s 6th grade reading classes read with Mrs. McClellan’s and Ms. Williamson’s 1st grade classes today. The students enjoyed reading books with a new friend!









Yesterday, Judy Meislahn and Randy Hurt, from the Cumberland County Soil and Water Conservation District, visited the third graders and talked about the importance of planting trees. Each third grader received a tree to take home and plant. We appreciate their time speaking with the third grade and their sponsorship of third and fourth grade nature field trips.

The original School Calendar has been updated. The District used three emergency days this year on 10/28, 1/25, and 2/27. Therefore, there WILL be school on the following Fridays:

Congratulations to our cafeteria staff! In their recent food inspections, the Elementary/Middle School and High School each received the Perfect Score Award! This award is achieved through hard work, cleanliness, food safety, and excellent food handling practices.



The second grade classes have been learning about money, and to go along with the lessons, the students have been earning money in class. On Friday, the students spent their earnings to purchase tickets for fun events in their classrooms. The students enjoyed spending their money and learning about the economy at the same time!











Mrs. Figgins and Mrs. McElravy had mystery readers in their classrooms this past Friday. Mrs. Figgins's class enjoyed activities and a story about spring. Mrs. McElravy’s class listened to a story about the importance of friendship.



The fifth grade made a scavenger hunt for the second grade students in Mrs. Beard’s classroom. They hid items all over the school for them to find!


On Thursday, April 20, the elementary school and middle school will begin the ABC Countdown to the Last Day of School. There are some dress-up days planned in the countdown. The calendar shows what is happening each day.
