Mrs. Bierman’s second grade students completed a blubber lab during their Arctic Animal unit. The students had to put one hand in the ice without blubber and their second hand, surrounded by blubber, in the other bowl of ice. The students concluded that the hand in the blubber glove was much warmer! Arctic animals use their blubber to help keep them warm.
CHS Art Club hosted a "Kids Create: After School Art" program at the grade school on February 16. The high school students taught the grade school students how to create heart silhouette paintings. The next class will be on March 16, and students will be tie-dying shirts.
Last night was the annual Illinois Principals Association Wabash Valley Region Student Recognition dinner in Newton. Each principal may recognize two students from their school. Cumberland High School was represented by Michael Beaumont and Lauren Finn, Isaac Venatta and Stevi Nichols represented Cumberland Middle School, and Cumberland Elementary School was represented by Elizabeth Sudkamp and Raylan Figgins.
Mrs. Beard's 2nd graders did a great job on their math, so they celebrated with sundaes!
Cumberland Drama will present The Wizard of Oz on Friday, March 10, at 7 PM, Saturday, March 11, at 7 PM, and Sunday, March 12, at 2 PM at The Toledo Christian Church. Tickets are $8.00 and will be available after March 1st at both school offices, the Toledo Democrat, and Greenup & Toledo First Neighbor Bank.
2nd grade students dissected owl pellets as a culminating activity for their Arctic animal unit. Students learned about the different animals that owls eat and dissected the pellets to discover the bones of these animals.
Mrs. A. McElravy's class welcomed Brenda Jones last week as the February Mystery Reader!
Due to a water main break in Greenup, there will be no school for Cumberland CUSD #77 tomorrow, February 27. We are under a 24 hour boil order. We will use an emergency day.
The elementary and middle schools will be having dress-up days next week to celebrate Read Across America.

Mrs. Smyser's 3rd grade students created valentines for the residents at Cumberland Rehab in Greenup.
The elementary students have been painting with watercolors this week. Students in the 3rd grade are painting a pot full of flowers, while students in the 4th grade are painting a gumball machine!

The CHS Art Club is offering art classes for students this semester. Their first art class will be on February 16, from 3-4 PM in the grade school cafeteria. Students can sign up for individual classes for $20 each or for the entire semester for $60. Registration closes the Tuesday before each class.
