
Recently, Ms. Koonce's class celebrated filling up their positive behavior puffball jar with a popcorn rewards party! They worked very hard and had a great time.


Last week, the kindergarten students celebrated having the best attendance percentage in the elementary for the month of September. They had donuts for breakfast!

Third grade students have been studying 16th notes in the song “Old
Brass Wagon” in music class. They recently learned the circle dance
that goes with it, which includes a few square dance steps such as
swing and do-si-do. Pictured are students from Mrs. Young’s homeroom

Mrs. Young’s 3rd graders worked in reading centers this morning. Students had a variety of activities to complete, such as sight words, spelling practice, vocabulary, and reading.

Mrs. McClellan's 1st grade students worked on many Language Arts skills in centers this morning. They read CVC words, practiced their sight words, and worked on their handwriting.

Meyer Twins Art will be back at Cumberland Elementary and Middle School on Wednesday, October 26 from 3:15-5:00 PM. They have four projects to choose from. Sign up on the attached form. In order to ensure a spot, payment must be returned by Monday, October 24.

Inter-State Studio will be at the schools again on Thursday, 10/13, for picture make-ups and retakes.


This week, Mrs. Smyser's 3rd graders met with Kristi Shirley for an Ag in the Classroom lesson. They learned all about pumpkins. The students made their own mini pie.



Mr. Miller selects one student from each class to sign his PE bulletin board. While participating in the day's activities, he chooses a student who demonstrated good behavior, had a positive attitude, and played hard.

Mrs. Staley's 3rd graders listened to the story, Magic Tree House: Haunted Castle on Hallows Eve, today. Usually, they listen to two chapters a day, but the students have been very interested in this story and they read whenever they have free time.


There is no school on Friday, 10/7, due to a Teachers' Institute day, and no school on Monday, 10/10, in observance of Columbus Day.


Mrs. Peters' class finished up their apple unit with an afternoon of apple filled activities. The "picking" apples science experiment was the favorite activity of the afternoon!





Students in Mrs. Kemper’s 1st grade class got to play Rhythm Bingo as a reward for great behavior in music class this quarter!


The following students have been selected as October Raiders of the Month for Cumberland Elementary and Middle School. These students are excellent examples in our school! Congratulations, and keep up the good work!


Second graders in Miss Bueker's class are studying pumpkins in science. Painting pumpkins was a fun activity for them. Check out their creativity!





Mrs. Kemper's 1st Graders were busy learning this morning in their Daily 5 centers.

Mrs. Beard's 2nd graders studied apple facts last week and created their own apple trees.
