Last Thursday, the four kindergarten classes celebrated their 50th day of school with a 50s party! The students drank root beer floats, had a bubble gum-blowing contest, played limbo, tried to hula hoop, and danced to many songs!
This week, the 2nd grade classes participated in the Olympic games to wrap up their Ancient Greek and Mythology reading unit. Each student competed in an event. The students had a blast cheering on their classmates!
On Thursday, October 31, the elementary and middle school students can dress as their favorite book characters. Students should be able to move easily in their costumes and should not have any props or masks that would cause a distraction. This is an optional activity.
Cumberland CUSD #77 would like to invite our veterans and their families to join us for an all-school assembly on Monday, November 11 at 9:15 AM in the high school gym to honor those who have sacrificed so much for all of us. Rolls and coffee will be served to our visitors in the high school cafeteria beginning at 8:15 am. Cumberland County 4-H delivered pumpkins to the elementary school this morning. 14 students with good behavior were randomly chosen to take the pumpkins home!

Family Registration for One Stop Community Christmas 2024 will open on Wednesday, November 6 at 10:00 AM. Registration will close Friday, November 8, at 11:59 PM. If the maximum family count is reached before then, registration will close early. Family registration will be ONLINE only at: onestopcommunitychristmas.com The day of OSCC (Saturday, December 14, 2024), the parent/guardian will need to bring a photo ID and each child's (Newborn to 18 only) social security card to the event held at Lake Land Community College. Mrs. Carlen's class is learning about pumpkins. They measured how tall and how big around the pumpkins were. They also checked to see if they would sink or float and compared their weight.
Mrs. Smith's students had a great time painting pumpkins last week!

Mrs. Smith's second grade students enjoyed creating and flying their own kites as part of their Ancient Asia Civilization unit. The students loved flying them. For some, it was the first time ever flying a kite!
Cumberland students participated in a reading challenge in the month of September. Each picture book or chapter read was a chance to win a bike from the Toledo Masonic Lodge. Chase Ritchie was the winner! Congrats to him and a big thank you to the Toledo Masonic Lodge for motivating our readers!

Mrs. Chesnut's first grade class made lifesize photos of the human body systems - the circulatory, digestive, nervous, skeletal, and muscular systems - as a culminating activity for their reading unit!

Mrs. High's 4th graders learned about prepositions and prepositional phrases recently. To practice their prepositional phrases, the students made paper airplanes and threw them around the classroom. Once the plane landed, the student wrote a prepositional phrase describing where the plane went - between the desks….over the rafters…. across the room!
Eric Ode, author and songwriter, visited Cumberland Elementary School this morning. He sang songs and told fun stories that emphasized how he came up with the ideas for his books. The students really enjoyed singing along with Eric!
