The Foods 3 students received guidance from their guest, Patty Murray, last week. She taught students techniques to decorate cupcakes. These skills will be used in their upcoming Cupcake Wars! We look forward to seeing their final projects! 🧁



Volleyball Update: The high school volleyball game against CHBC on October 7th will be played at Cowden-Herrick.
The Cumberland FFA traveled to Neoga to compete in the Ag Sales and Job Interview CDEs. Kaitlyn Hemmen, Rory Watkins, Sadie Colnar, and Willow Sowers competed in Ag Sales, and Ellie Strader competed in Job Interview. Congratulations to Sadie Colnar for placing 2nd in her room and to Kaitlyn Hemmen for placing 3rd in her room!

CGB has forfeited the October 24th football game. We have been unsuccessful in finding a new opponent. So, we will be taking the forfeit and will not be playing in week 9.
The Foods I classes went on a field trip to Greenville today. They toured Marcoot Jersey Creamery, where students enjoyed cheese samples and seeing the cows. Then, they ate lunch at Joe's Pizza & Pasta. The final stop was the Milk House, where they indulged in homemade ice cream with waffle chips. It was a fun, yummy, and educational day!

Students in Foods 1 made some homemade mac and cheese this week!




The Effingham Daily News asked students to write in about their teachers for World Teacher Day. Nevaeh did just that! She wrote that her aide, Mrs. Christy Boswell, is the kindest person and would do anything for her. Mrs. Boswell has been working with Nevaeh for four years. Nevaeh appreciates Mrs. Boswell's help and considers her a friend. Thank you, Mrs. Boswell, for being a special person in Nevaeh's life!

The Cumberland Co. cross country team participated in the Cork Classic in Robinson yesterday. The boys placed 1st as a team. The boys medalists were Cameron Roedl, 5th, Colby Roedl, 7th, Gavin Whitaker, 15th, Brett Matusas, 18th, Aydan Oakley, 23rd, Damien Chardon, 30th, Jacob Pierce, 31st, and Clayton Altgilbers, 46th. For the girls, Paula Hohn placed 32nd.

Today, the seniors in civics classes were given questions about the Second Amendment, and they had to choose if they agreed or disagreed with the question while supporting their stance. The students shared their perspectives and engaged in a respectful dialogue with their classmates. It was extra special because administrators, our SRO, teachers, and some juniors joined in on the conversations.









The CHS Varsity Eco team took 3rd place out of 18 teams today at their Eco competition. Their topics were the Life of Bees, Frogs of Illinois, and Indians Along the Kaskaskia. Great job, team!

Fun things are happening at CHS! Students and staff were testing out homecoming dance moves during Pirate Cove!

The Cumberland FFA traveled to SIU in Carbondale to compete in the state forestry contest, where they placed 4th overall as a team! Congratulations to Kaitlyn Hemmen for placing 7th and Ellie Strader for placing 6th in the state individually!

The Cumberland County boys cross country team placed 5th today at the Spartan Classic in St. Joe! Boys medalists were Cameron Roedl, 6th, Colby Roedl, 29th, Gavin Whitaker, 41st, Brett Matusas, 42nd, Aydan Oakley, 56th, Damien Chardon, 66th, and Kade Bradley, 77th. Paula Hohn, 71st, medaled for the girls. Cameron Roedl was the top Junior with a time of 15:11. Congratulations!

9/26 Football Update: Tonight's football game has been pushed back to a 7:15 start time because Arcola's bus broke down. Senior night will be at the scheduled time of 6:35 PM
