We had a couple of visitors around the campus this afternoon to surprise the students as they left for the holiday break!
Foods I and Orientation to FACS students made a breakfast buffet yesterday. Students made buttermilk pancakes, bacon, eggs, and fresh fruit. It gave them energy to take on final exams!

Just like on the show Shark Tank, the Math Applications class presented their business ideas to the Sharks recently. Students used financial information to calculate annual revenue, expenses, EBIT, and business valuation. In their presentations, the Sharks and students conversed and made deals for financial backing in exchange for equity in the business!

It's Mega Night tonight! Come out to cheer on the girls varsity and boys JV/varsity as they take on Neoga. Boys JV tips off at 5 PM, girls varsity is at 6:30 PM, and boys varsity begins around 8 PM. Go Pirates!
Early dismissal reminder for next week: School will dismiss at 2 PM on Thursday, Dec. 19, and Friday, Dec. 20. There is no school from December 21 - January 3 for the holiday break.
The CHS Student Council visited the Greenup Nursing home yesterday to spread Christmas cheer! The students went Christmas caroling and handed out Christmas cards to the residents. The residents enjoyed the visitors and sang along with the caroling!
CHS semester exams are scheduled for Thursday, December 19, and Friday, December 20. School will dismiss at 2 PM on those two days.
Students in the Orientation to FACS class made peanut butter blossom cookies. They were tasty! 🍪
Congratulations to Larissa Ramirez and Kaliyah Browder! Their gingerbread house won the teen division at the Candy Canes on Main festival in Casey. The two will split the $150 prize.
Each year, Ms. McCown's Geometry students build cities as their second quarter project. The students voted to determine the top three. 1st place was a tie between Greasy Grove (Wyatt Scales and Lance Lock) and Kitty City (Lauren Stevens and Raegan Hollingsworth). 2nd place went to Legoland (Cody Ferris and Alaina Tipsword). There was a tie for 3rd place between Heisenberg (Stevi Nichols and Addison Johnson) and Spring Meadow (Leah Olmstead and Molly Harper).
On December 7, the CHS Scholastic Bowl team competed at Granite City in the South Central Scholastic League Fall League Tournament. There were two tournaments in one day, the Varsity tournament and the JV tournament. The varsity team placed 3rd out of 16 teams! Camden James and Rylan James were named to the All-Tournament Team. The JV team placed 2nd out of 14 teams! Addison Johnson was named to the JV All-Tournament Team. Congratulations to all!
The CHS Band and Choir groups kicked off the holiday season with their performances at the Holiday Concert yesterday!
Foods III students created some beautiful Christmas magic this week! Students and staff voted selecting their favorite. The winner of the contest was "The Cozy Cabin." It was made by Larissa Ramirez and Kaliyah Browder. It featured Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal, peanuts, pretzels, mini candy canes, gumdrops, Sweet Tarts mini chews, cotton candy, and LOTS of frosting! Mrs. Thomas and Ms. Tran are proud of all three projects that were made.
Foods III students have been busy making Christmas magic! They designed & built gingerbread houses. First, they made homemade gingerbread, royal icing and buttercream frosting. Then, they got to work assembling their creation and decorating it with edible items. Students used cereal, candy and other small props to personalize their houses. Mrs. Thomas and Ms. Tran are so proud of their amazing work! If you would like to see them, the gingerbread houses were entered in the Candy Canes on Main competition that is being held this weekend. You can vote for your favorite entry at the Wildflour Bakery in downtown Casey.
The CHS Chess Club went to Mattoon to play in a friendly tournament. This is their 3rd year of playing with Mattoon's IHSA Chess team!
Senior members of boys basketball, girls basketball, wrestling, cheer and band
will be recognized along with their parents on December 6 between the JV and varsity
basketball games with OPH.
In Biology, Mrs. Steber's students have been exploring how to use microscopes and have located cells on their slides.
