Freshmen in Mrs. Wright’s English classes have been working on deconstructing songs and they are presenting their findings this week. They began with only the written lyrics of a song. From there, they studied the song line by line focusing on figurative language, and then made a guess as to the meaning of the song, its genre, and its tone. After researching, they discovered if their original guesses were correct.

Cumberland High School’s Fellowship of Christians Athletes met on October 13 and heard guest Speaker Mike Nichols speak about aspects of teamwork and working toward goals. Nichols, a probation officer for Coles/Cumberland Court Services, is a former football player and current IHSA official in several sports. “I wish someone had told me about officiating when I was your age,” Nichols told students. “It’s a great way to earn some money and stay involved in sports when your high school sports career has finished.” Special thanks to Kathy Peters for providing breakfast!
