
The Cumberland Pirate football team will play at Greenfield on Saturday, November 5, at 2:00 PM.

High school football practice will still be at 3:30 PM. Parents can pick their kids up from the Toledo Christian Church at 5:45 after the pregame meal like normal.

Due to a water main break in Greenup, there will be no school for Cumberland CUSD #77 tomorrow, October 28. We will use an emergency day. Once water is restored, we will be under a 48 hour boil order. Halloween parties at the grade school will be moved to Monday, October 31.

The students in BIO II completed a lab that mimics kidney filteration.




Freshmen in Mrs. Wright’s English classes have been working on deconstructing songs and they are presenting their findings this week. They began with only the written lyrics of a song. From there, they studied the song line by line focusing on figurative language, and then made a guess as to the meaning of the song, its genre, and its tone. After researching, they discovered if their original guesses were correct.

Students in Foods I cooked a delicious breakfast last Thursday. This time they made pumpkin pancakes!

Cumberland will host Rushville Industry for the first round of the IHSA football playoffs next Saturday, October 29 at 2:00 PM. IHSA admission to the game is $5.00. Go Pirates!

Congratulations to the boys' and girls' cross country teams! Both advanced to the sectional cross country meet next Saturday, October 29 at Dodds Park in Champaign. The girls' race will begin at 10:00 AM and the boys will follow at 11:00 AM.

Reminder: There is no school on Friday, October 21.


Report cards for grades 1-8 have been posted in the TeacherEase parent portal.
Due to technical difficulties, Kindergarten report cards will be posted at a later date. A notification will be posted when those are ready.
At the end of the semester, high school students will receive their report cards. At this midpoint, parents are encouraged to check grades on TeacherEase.

Today was the mid semester celebration for the high school qualifiers. Students qualify for the celebration with good grades, attendance, and behavior. Their reward at today's celebration was ice cream! 🍦

The following students submitted auditions and were selected for ILMEA. CHS students selected to the Senior ILMEA Music Festival were Austin Becker, Austin Carlen, and Rachel Starwalt. CMS students selected to the Junior ILMEA Music Festival were Raegan Jones, Cody Farris, Addison Johnson, Eli Robinson, and Lauren Stevens.


Foods I students made a delicious breakfast Tuesday. On the menu this week was French Toast!

Cumberland's football game vs. Cerro Gordo on Friday, October 21, 2022, will be played in Bement at 7:00 PM.

BIO I worked together to build large organelles to turn Mrs. Gibson's classroom into a giant cell!





Last Friday, Foods I students participated in a lab where they made buttermilk pancakes. The students had the option of adding chocolate chips or fresh blueberries to their pancakes.

Cumberland High School’s Fellowship of Christians Athletes met on October 13 and heard guest Speaker Mike Nichols speak about aspects of teamwork and working toward goals. Nichols, a probation officer for Coles/Cumberland Court Services, is a former football player and current IHSA official in several sports.
“I wish someone had told me about officiating when I was your age,” Nichols told students. “It’s a great way to earn some money and stay involved in sports when your high school sports career has finished.”

The CHS Art Club met yesterday to work on their Halloween project. The students painted the first piece of their Halloween signs. These will make great decorations!
