Our students were surprised to see some very special visitors this afternoon as they left for Christmas break!

Mrs. Beard's and Mrs. Kemper's classes went on a fun gingerbread hunt together yesterday!

The second graders have been busy decorating Christmas trees and gingerbread houses with icing and candy. They look amazing!

Grades 1, 3, 5, and 8 have been named the winners of the annual Elementary and Middle School Christmas Tree Decoating Contest! Here is a short video of all of the decorated trees. Enjoy! https://youtu.be/OQ4lHfp77Hg

Message from Nurse Peters:
Parents--Please check your child's temperature and symptoms prior to sending them to school. There is a lot of illness that we don't wish to continue to share with everyone over and over again. If your child is ill, please keep them home until they are no longer running a fever for 24 hours without medication or until their symptoms improve. Thank you so much! Happy Holidays!

Last week during Pre-K, students decorated their own edible Christmas tree. They enjoyed snacking on the delicious tree they made!

The schools will be dismissing at 2:20 PM on Tuesday 12/20 and Wednesday 12/21.

Next week, the elementary and middle schools will have holiday spirit dress up days. Dressing up is optional.

First grade learns about many holiday traditions during the holiday season. Yesterday, Mrs. McClellan's class enjoyed icing and eating sugar cookies they decorated themselves.

Mrs. Lawson's third grade class used the engineering design process to create snow forts. The snow forts had to have walls, a roof, and survive a snowball attack (marshmallows)!

The Cumberland Elementary and Middle School art classes held their own Holiday Dairy Card Contest after participating in the Merry Dairy Holiday Card Contest sponsored by the St. Louis Dairy Council. The top five students from each grade had their cards displayed for their classmates to vote on, and these students were the winners for their grades! Nice work students!!

The Kindergarten students used their creativity to decorate their very own gingerbread houses last week!

The Gingerbread man ran away from the Kindergarteners this morning! He left clues as to where he was all around the school. He was fast, but the Kindergarteners were faster! They found him hiding in their room!

Today was a great day for a snowball fight in Pre-K!

These students have been selected as December Raiders of the Month for Cumberland Elementary and Middle School. They are a great example of the Raider Keys! Congratulations and keep up the good work!

Several elementary classrooms were visited by the Middle School Kindness Ambassadors this week. After reading books about kindness and manners, the ambassadors led a discussion about kindness with the students. They did a great job!

Cumberland Elementary and Middle Schools have an opening for a Secretary and Custodian beginning in January 2023. Interested applicants should send their credentials to Daniel Huffman at dhuffman@cusd77.org and Stacy Keyser at skeyser@cusd77.org. Applications are due by December 9.

After completing a unit called Energizing Everything, Mrs. Figgins’ 4th grade students brainstormed, designed, and presented chain reactions in groups. The chain reactions are demonstrated by each group in the video.

Connect 4 was a fun way for these first graders to practice sight words last week. Additionally, they learned the importance of taking turns, being a good sport, and following directions.

Mrs. Bierman’s class listened to the story Balloons over Broadway, a book about the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. They watched a video about how the balloon floats were made and did a science experiment for gas reactions to inflate balloons. The students then designed their own balloons for the parade.
