Cumberland High School students in the science club and physics classes participated in the second annual Robinson Engineering Competition on November 11. The JV team won first place overall! The teams participated in five events: Flying Machine, Weight-Propelled Car, Torsion Catapult, Toothpick Bridge and the Mystery Build.
The varsity team (physics) earned 7th and 8th place in the catapult (Levi Ray, Camden James, and Rylan James) and 4th place in the flying machine (Derrick Oakley).
The JV team (science club) earned 1st in the Flying Machine (Jonah Tibbs), 1st in the Toothpick Bridge (Isaac Venatta), and 1st in the Mystery Build (Jonah Tibbs, Isaac Venatta, Levi Ray, and Camden James).
The Foods III students made omelets with various savory ingredients; like cheese, bacon, mushrooms, onions, and green peppers!
Come out and support the high school Cross Country team as they head to IHSA State Friday morning. They will leave the school with a firetruck escort at 8 AM. They will go around the square in Toledo before they head out of town.
Runners will compete at Detweiller Park in Peoria on Saturday, November 9, at 10 AM. Good luck to all of the runners!!
Ms. Steber's physical science students built models of chemical compounds to help them understand their structure and how this translates to their chemical formulas!

The Foods I students made Macaroni and Cheese! They made a white sauce and then added two kinds of cheese to it. It was hard work to stir for so long!
Mr. Hall's senior civics class held a mock election for the high school students today during lunch. The election gave the students the experience of the voting process when they checked in, voted in booths, and deposited their vote.
The Foods III students went to Mattoon recently for a field trip. They visited Holey Moley where they were given a tour and watched a demonstration of donut making. Students iced and decorated a freshly made cake donut. They ate lunch at Luigi's. Other stops included the culinary floor at LIFT, Lytle Park , and Burger King for ice cream. It was a fun day!

The CHS Student Council held a costume contest today! Maddy Cutright won Best Costume, Nevaeh Peddycoart won Most Creative, and Jaxon Daugherty and Mikalah Belford won Best Group. Congratulations!

Cumberland CUSD #77 would like to invite our veterans and their families to join us for an all-school assembly on Monday, November 11 at 9:15 AM in the high school gym to honor those who have sacrificed so much for all of us. Rolls and coffee will be served to our visitors in the high school cafeteria beginning at 8:15 am. Cumberland will take on Tuscola in the first round of the playoffs on Friday, November 1, at 7 PM. Admission to this home game is $6 as set by the IHSA. Season passes cannot be used for playoff games. This game will not be livestreamed on HUDL TV per IHSA guidelines. Let's go Pirates!!
Mrs. Lee’s Algebra classes have been learning about like terms. The students got to prove that they knew the like terms by playing “combine like terms” UNO!
The Anatomy students completed tasks to discover their senses for their nervous system unit.
Cumberland High School raised $200 at their Pink Out game last week! These funds will go to individuals fighting breast cancer. Cumberland went on to defeat Villa Grove 2-1!
