Cupcake Wars is a baking competition that is part of the Foods III class at CHS. Participants chose a theme for their project. They designed a display and the cupcake decorations. Students made a homemade cupcake recipe with "special" ingredients, like cake flour, sour cream, buttermilk, fresh strawberries, or lemon juice. They made buttercream frosting and decorated their cupcakes. The projects were available for staff and students to view. The staff was also able to taste them. The "Butterfly Bouquet" was a white cupcake with strawberry filling, and the "Months of the Year" were confetti sprinkle cupcakes.
The winner of the 2025 cupcake wars was the Butterfly Bouquet. This beautiful creation was made by Cameron Robbins and Shelby Schumacher. They won for both appearance and taste. Both groups did a great job and enjoyed the fun of the competition!

We are proud of CHS student, Nevaeh! She designed a lesson for Mrs. Smith's second grade class. She read the book, There Once was an Old Lady who Swallowed a Turkey to the class. Then, she had a turkey activity for the students to make! The students really enjoyed her lesson! 🦃

The CHS Foods III students went to Holey Moley in Mattoon. They learned how yeast donuts are made and watched the production of cake donuts. Each student decorated their own with icing and sprinkles!

Students in BIO 1 explored the rate of photosynthesis in a lab they completed this week! 🍁

Students in Ms. McCown’s Transition to Quantitative Literacy and Statistics class are diving into data and exploring topics that interest them!
Some of the topics include:
🏈 Comparing Green Bay Packers vs. Chicago Bears stats
💉 Looking at job rates of Nurse Practitioners vs. CNAs
❤️ Exploring data on organ transplants across the U.S.
Students are learning how to make sense of real numbers by creating box plots, finding the mean and standard deviation, checking how data fits under the normal curve, and even running regressions to find relationships between data points. It’s awesome to see them connecting math to the real world and discovering that data can tell some pretty cool stories!

🚗💤 It’s Drowsy Driver Prevention Week! 💤🚗
Did you know that driving while tired can be just as dangerous as driving under the influence? Every year, thousands of crashes happen because drivers fall asleep at the wheel — and teens are especially at risk.
This week, we’re reminding all our students and families:
✅ Get 8–10 hours of sleep before driving.
✅ Recognize warning signs like yawning, drifting lanes, or heavy eyelids.
✅ If you feel tired, pull over safely or delay your trip.
A few extra minutes of rest can save a life — maybe even your own.
Let’s all do our part to Stay Awake and Arrive Alive! 🛣️✨
Brought to you by the CHS S.A.D.D. group.

The CHS Student Council is collecting items from November 3-7 that will be donated to the Hutsonville Heritage Shelter Care Veterans Home. They will have collection boxes at Coffee and Creams, the Fillin Station, and Chances R. Every donation makes a difference!
