The Cumberland Middle School Lady Raider Basketball Team will host their annual awards on Wednesday, December 20, at 5:30 PM in the grade/middle school cafeteria.
The EIU Jazz Lab Band stopped by this afternoon to play a collection of songs for the middle school and high school band students. The students enjoyed listening to the show and learning about the band.
The fifth grade science classes had their first dissection lab today. With the help of Kristi Shirley and Ag in the Classroom, the students used the dissection tools to learn all about the anatomy of a grasshopper. The classes enjoyed this hands-on activity!
The elementary and middle school bottle cap collection will end this Friday, 12/1. We have met our goal with the incredible support of the community. Our next step will be to organize the caps for the bench production. Thanks to everyone who helped us accomplish this step of our goal!

The 5th grade students designed and wrote an excerpt about a brand new type of donut they would like to be created. Each homeroom class selected the top three donuts to enter the competition for the best new donut. This year, Leah McMechan won with her design of a Smores Donut! The entire grade celebrated with a donut party this morning!
Thanksgiving break begins with 2:20 PM dismissal on Tuesday, 11/21. There will be no school from 11/22-11/26. School resumes on Monday, 11/27.
Middle school students who were selected for ILMEA Jr. Choir enjoyed a great day of making music and performing a concert with other students from around Central Illinois on Saturday, November 18, at Eastern Illinois University. Students participating today were Chloe Roedl, Alyssa Yocum, Chase Burns, Cameron Coleman, Amber Lewis, Ethan Matthew, Cody Farris, Konnor McKelvey.

Mrs. Walsh's 7th grade class prepared points and counterpoints for a debate on Daylight Savings Time. The class had eight in favor of keeping Daylight Savings Time vs. 11 in favor of eliminating it.
Last week, Mrs. Scales had her class practice following sequential directions while making a yummy turkey treat!
The elementary and middle schools are collecting bottle caps to create a bench in memory of Mike Oakley, our Transportation Director. The specific caps listed will be recycled into a memorial bench to be placed at school as a reminder of Mike's positive influence on students, parents, and staff. If you would like to help, you may drop off your caps at the grade school office.
The 5th and 6th Grade Eco Team placed 1st today out of 11 teams at the Douglas Hart Eco Meet! Team members include Amelia Colnar, Paige Wolke, Adam Wolke, Shelby Nichols, and Maybree Harper. Adam earned the best scores in Natural Disasters and Raptors!
The Middle School Student Council is collecting books from November 15-29 to donate to One Stop Community Christmas. If you would like to help support the cause, please send a NEW book to school with and Grade School or Middle School student.

The Cumberland community lost a beloved employee Thursday. Mike Oakley spent thirty years serving our community and school district. His work ethic and dedication were exceptional. Our prayers and love go out to Mike’s family. He will be forever missed.
The Cumberland Middle School boys basketball team has rescheduled their game against Marshall for Tuesday, January 16 at 6 pm in the Cumberland Middle School gym. Additionally, the home volleyball game scheduled for that date has been canceled at this point with the possibility of being rescheduled. That new date will be announced once it's finalized.
