The middle school girls cross country team placed 3rd at the Little Trojan Cross Country Invitational held at EIU today. Liz Sudkamp placed 8th and Ivy Brummer placed 9th to medal. Fifteen Raiders earned new PR’s including Paige Wolke in 13th place in the girls race and Adam Wolke placing 14th in the boys race.

Mrs. Hall's 7th and 8th grade students were grouped into teams to design an experiment to test the strength of paper towels using what they have learned about the scientific method. Next week, they will merge each team's ideas into one experiment!





Cumberland Middle School softball will play its first game of the IESA Regional on September 10 at Casey at 4:30 PM. They will take on the winner of the Paris Mayo/Marshall game on September 8 in Paris. Good luck, Lady Raiders!

In observance of Labor Day, there will be no school on Monday, September 1.

The fifth grade students recently participate in Mr. Janssen's 4th annual Straw rocket challenge. Each team had the opportunity to design and create a straw rocket. They then were given three launches for measurement and an average was made.
Winners for 1st hour were Piper Flood and Marley Peters with an average distance of 24 feet, 2nd place was Mason Saylor and Jase Young with a 18.5 feet average and third place was Parker Stone and Phillip Hinz with an average of 18 feet. Nora Bierman and Olivia Weaver created the coolest rocket based off class votes.
3rd hour winners were Scarlett Rich and Mya Smith with an average distance of 18 feet, 8 inches, 2nd place was John Mark Chesnut and Gideon Sedgwick with an average distance of 16.5 feet and third place was Gus Beckman and Carter Julian with an average distance of 11 feet 4 inches. Coolest rocket was awarded to River Brummer and Espen Cathey.
The 7th hour winners were Kollin McKelvey, Colt Moses, and Murphy Wellbaum with an average of 12 feet 4 inches, 2nd place was Cheney Dittamore and Quinn Peters with an average of 9 feet 9 inches, and third place went to Zack Blythe and Carson Copsy with an average of 9 feet 6 inches. Coolest rocket was won by Kane Watkins and Franklin Malone.

Our middle school students are stepping up to the plate! This week, they are learning the game of slow-pitch softball, while building skills, teamwork, and having fun along the way! ⚾





Mrs. Ralston's fifth grade science students worked through the scientific method to test different brands of bubble gum to see which made the biggest bubble. Hypotheses were made, data was collected, and bubbles were popped! Students had a great time completing this experiment.










Come out tonight to celebrate our 8th grade softball players before their game against Neoga! The recognition of the players will begin at 4:20. Go Raiders!

The Cumberland Middle School softball 8th grade night will be on Friday, August 22, before the game against Neoga. The girls and their parents will be announced at 4:20 PM.
Students in Mrs. Kingery's 8th grade reading classes are reading a novel called Left Out by Tim Green. The main character in the novel has hearing and speech impairments. Students played Go Fish following ALS rules, where they had to communicate through nonverbal methods!




Mr. Bloemer's 8th grade science students were given a puzzle that presented a situation with limited facts. The students had to use investigation, clues, and logic to figure out who owned the fish in the scenario!

The middle school students celebrated the first week of school with popsicles and time to hang out with their friends this afternoon! We are off to a great start!
